A Look At Three Preventive Treatments

If you have undergone treatment to manage gum disease, then we could use preventive care to keep it under control. We can employ the same treatments to help prevent the onset of gum disease too! In today’s blog, Dr. Ann Kania talks about three different preventive periodontal treatments.

When You Need Prevention

When should you see preventive care from a periodontist? If you start to notice changes to your gums, such as soreness and redness, bleeding, or swelling, then see us right away. These changes could indicate gum inflammation, also known as gingivitis, and treatment to reverse it and prevent periodontal disease can be administered. If you have already developed gum disease, these same treatments can help us manage it in the early stages to prevent the risk of periodontitis and tooth loss down the road.

Supportive Periodontal Maintenance

If we catch the issue in the early stages, or if we have administered treatment in the form of a deep cleaning or laser treatment, then we could follow this with Supportive Periodontal Maintenance. Essentially, this enables us to gently and thoroughly remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth every three to four months, which can control inflammation and manage the disease to keep your smile strong. We will use an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual toll to remove the buildup from the teeth and roots, and polish the teeth to help limit buildup capability until we see you again in three to four months.

Ozone Therapy

Our team can also control harmful bacteria with Ozone Therapy. Also known as Oxygen Treatment, this involves administering oxygen directly to the teeth and gums in the form in a gas or liquid. This destroys harmful disease-causing bacteria to keep your smile intact and healthy, but leaves healthy bacteria in place to protect your smile’s biome. This is a safe, fast, and effective treatment that is noninvasive, safeguarding your smile.

Scaling and Root Planing

If you reach out to us and we find the disease is in a more advanced stage, then our team could offer a deep cleaning. Also known as a scaling and root planing, this enables us to remove harmful buildup from the teeth and roots, and from under the gums, to manage disease. The process could take one visit or several, and we will numb your smile to ensure your comfort throughout the process.
