When You Need a Calming Solution
We recommend this for people undergoing more advanced treatment options, such as dental implant placement. We want to ensure your visit is a comfortable one, and your treatment experience is positive. We also offer this to help people with special needs or severe anxiety, which could make undergoing even minor cleanings a difficult process otherwise. The option we choose will depend on numerous factors, such as your age, weight, current medications, dental and medical history, and anxiety levels. We have three different sedations available, and our team is trained in the administration of sedation!
Our Sedation Treatment Options
Inhaled nitrous oxide is the most common option, also known as laughing gas. With this option, the patient breathes in a special gas and enters a calm and relaxed state, with little to no memory of the procedure afterward. The effects are immediate and wear off just as quick once the procedure ends, so you can even drive yourself home. You also remain conscious during treatment, and able to respond to the hygienist or periodontist as needed.
For deeper calming, we could also offer oral conscious, which is a more extensive calming that still allows you to stay conscious, with no memory of the procedure afterward in most cases. You take the medication in the form of a gas or liquid prior to the procedure, and the effects take time to wear off, so you should have a friend or family member available to bring you home.
The deepest form available is IV, and as the name implies, is administered intravenously. This offers a very deep state of calm, with no memory of the procedure in most cases. We will monitor you throughout the process, and the effects again take time to war off, so be sure someone is available to bring you home.
