The Link Between Bacteria and Disease
How does harmful bacteria lead to periodontal disease? When we don’t brush and floss thoroughly, and have a diet high in sugar, this could allow harmful food and drink particles to remain on and between the teeth. As bacteria break down these particles, this elevates oral acidity and cats the teeth in plaque and tartar, which then irritates and inflames the gums to cause the disease. With the Perio Protect system we provide a set of plastic trays that fit comfortably over your teeth. When in place, these will deliver a special medicated gel to the teeth and gums, which can destroy bacteria that cause periodontal disease and inflammation, including the bacteria hiding under the gums and between the teeth. The trays will be worn daily for a special amount of time we recommend. They are easy to clean and maintain, and if you hit the road for a summer vacation, they can go with you!
