When should you contact our team for periodontal treatment? When your gums begin to change, this is often the first indicator of trouble. For example, you could notice redness and they could feel sore. There could be bleeding when you brush and floss, or even recession that makes teeth appear long or possibly uneven. Our team will conduct a detailed examination of your smile and assess the cause and extent of your gum disease. For the early stages, we could make the issue manageable with a deep cleaning, also known as a scaling and root planing.
The procedure will use the same tools as a traditional cleaning, the ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool. However, this will be used to remove harmful plaque and tartar buildup from the teeth and the exposed portions of the roots as well. We even remove buildup and harmful deposits from beneath the gums too. The procedure is more involved than a traditional one, and could take a single visit or as many as four, depending on the severity of your plaque and tartar buildup. Once we remove these harmful layers, we will polish the teeth to make it more difficult for plaque and tartar to buildup in between visits, and to also brighten the smile.
To continue managing the disease, we could recommend a traditional cleaning ever three to four months to control buildup. We could also offer Supportive Periodontal Maintenance in the place of a cleaning every few months. Our team also has holistic treatments to manage the issue, such as Ozone Therapy to destroy harmful bacteria or antimicrobial medications. We can discuss better homecare and nutrition to fight poor gum health.
