Perio Protect Safeguards Your Smile

Our team can offer advanced lasers to treat gum disease, but we can also provide preventive treatments to help manage the issue in the early stages and keep the advanced stages of the disease at bay. One such treatment is a set of Perio Protect trays. In today’s blog, your Encinitas/San Diego, CA, periodontist talks about safeguarding your smile with custom trays.

The Risks Associated with Periodontal Disease

When we develop periodontal disease, we could begin to experience uncomfortable symptoms, such as sore and red gums that bleed easily, selling, or even recession that changes the appearance of your smile. Without treatment, the issue will grow in severity until you begin to lose your natural teeth. Which is why we want to offer care that helps prevent the onset of the disease, or aids in managing it to keep your smile whole and beautiful. With our Perio Protect trays, we can offer this for our patients!

The Perio Protect System

To begin, our team will examine your smile to assess the cause and severity of your disease, so we can create a personalized treatment plan. These trays could be part of the early stages of prevention, or may be used following laser treatment to help manage the issue and safeguard your smile. Our team will take detailed digital images of your smile from multiple angles and then combine them to create a 3D impression, one that enables us to custom-fit a custom set of plastic trays. You then take them home, along with an anti-bacterial gel. You will fill the trays and wear them for a set amount of time each day, so it delivers medication directly to your gums to destroy the bacteria that causes the disease, protecting your soft tissues. This can be used in conjunction with your other oral hygiene habits, it protects your smile from periodontal concerns and tooth loss. These are easy to use and maintain, and can travel with you too!

Proper Brushing and Flossing

You also need to care for your smile with proper brushing and flossing each day. Twice a day, you should brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste, be sure to clean along the gum line too. You also need to floss in the evening before you brush the second time, which helps remove trapped food particles from between the teeth to limit inflammation and discomfort. We also urge you to avoid tobacco products too.

If you have any questions about how we help safeguard your smile with our Perio Protect trays, then contact our team today to learn more about them!
