Managing Disease With REPAIR With WaterLase

In our last blog, we talked about reh LANAP system, which helps encourage the attachment of healthy gum tissues to manage disease. But your Encinitas/San Diego, CA, periodontist can also use advanced laser treatments to conduct treatment to manage periodontal disease with the REPAIR WaterLase system.

The Importance of Treatment

Periodontal disease may initially start with patients experiencing sore, red gums and bleeding when they brush and floss, but the disease can grow in severity with time, and without treatment, could reach the periodontitis stage. At this stage, the tissues connecting your teeth and gums break down, resulting in the loss of your teeth. In addition, the severe gum recession related to the disease could uncover sensitive portions of your teeth and leave you vulnerable to tooth decay and infection. But with treatment, our team can use dental lasers to manage the disease and protect the stability of your smile, and even correct issues with recession.

The REPAIR WaterLase System

With the REPAIR system, a dental laser will be accompanied by a steady stream of water, which helps protect the treated areas from injury and ensures a faster healing period and a more comfortable treatment. For example, you may not require any anesthesia during the procedure! The lasers enable our team to gently trim away diseased portions without damaging healthy tissues. Since we don’t use scalpels or sutures, the area heals quickly and you’re less likely to experience bleeding, soreness, and swelling. Our team can also use lasers to help prepare smiles for the Pinhole Surgical Technique, a conservative approach to gum grafts to cover the exposed portions of the teeth and improve the symmetry of your smile.

What Happens Next?

Once we complete the procedure, our team will send you home with any aftercare instructions and monitor the treated area with a follow-up visit. We can also schedule preventive care to help control buildup of plaque and tartar and manage the disease, so you avoid the late stages and continue to enjoy a healthy and attractive smile. This could include cleanings every three to four months, Supportive Periodontal Maintenance, Ozone Therapy, or even unique antimicrobial treatments. We will also discuss better homecare habits in between your office visits.

Together, we can help you maintain a whole and healthy smile! If you have any questions, or if you want to arrange your first exam, then contact our team today to learn more. Our team wants to help you maintain your best smile!
