As destructive as periodontal disease can be, preventing its development is not complicated. Brushing and flossing your teeth at least twice a day is vital to controlling the buildup of dental plaque, which is formed by masses of oral bacteria, but the daily routine isn’t sufficient to prevent periodontal disease alone. Your regular dental cleaning allows your dentist or hygienist to more thoroughly remove any plaque you may have missed, and plaque’s calcified form, tartar. It also allows for a thorough inspection of your mouth for signs of trouble. The good news is that, while prevention is the best medicine against periodontal disease, early detection is the next best thing.
If you’re diagnosed with gum disease, your oral health will need more than a regular dental checkup to bounce back. Dr. Kania will determine the best treatment for your individual needs. Continued re-evaluation will determine the success of your periodontal therapy, and whether or not further treatment is required. They call it therapy for a reason 😉
In the case that gum disease fully develops in spite of your best efforts, Dr. Kania may utilize innovative laser periodontal therapy to remove the infection and promote faster periodontal healing and reattachment. If your periodontal health is in danger, or if you’d like to learn more about the preventive advantages of advanced periodontal therapy, contact Dr. Kania at our San Diego periodontist’s office by calling (706) 642-0711. We serve patients from Encinitas, San Diego, Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar, La Costa, and the neighboring communities.
