Our Advanced Diagnostic Imagery

Our team wants to help you find the right treatment for your periodontal disease, so you can avoid worsening symptoms and tooth loss, keeping your smile healthy and whole. Which means we want accuracy and precision during the diagnostic process. In today’s blog, your Encinitas/San Diego, CA, periodontist talks about our advanced diagnostic imagery.

When to Seek Treatment

You should contact our periodontist for a chance to discuss treatment when you experience changes to your gum tissues. Soreness, redness, and bleeding could all indicate gingivitis or the early stages of periodontal disease. As the issue grows in severity, you could also experience swelling or even recession which makes teeth appear long and uneven. Lack of treatment could allow the inflammation to reach the periodontitis stage, which means adult tooth loss is possible! But treatment in the early stages can preserve your smile and that starts with a diagnosis.

Digital X-Rays and Intraoral Cameras

Our team will take detailed x-rays of your smile to assess the health and strength of your jawbone and roots, and look for indicators of the disease. The digital alternative means no bitewings and that we use 90% less radiation. The images are then taken instantly at a chairside monitor, so you can be walked through the diagnostic process by our team. Then images can also be sent easily to specialists as needed. We also look at the surfaces of your gingival tissues with an intraoral camera, which provides very detailed and high-definition images of the smile. with this information, we can make a diagnosis with precision and accuracy!

Starting Care

Once we complete the diagnosis, our team will create a treatment plan to begin reversing gingivitis or managing periodontal disease to keep your smile whole and strong. For minor cases, we could use a deep cleaning to remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth and roots. We then manage it with traditional cleanings every three to four months, and holistic options like Ozone Therapy or even antibiotics. We could also recommend Supportive Periodontal Maintenance in place of traditional cleanings. For more severe cases, we could use dental lasers to remove diseased tissues and allow healthy ones to attach to the teeth. We also have a conservative alternative to gum grafts to correct receding tissues and restore the health and beauty of your smile.

If you have any questions about how we diagnose and treat issues like periodontal disease, then contact our team today to learn more. If you contact us now, you can use your remaining 2023 dental benefits or health savings funds before they’re gone at the end of the month.
