A Few Benefits of Laser Periodontal Care

One of modern technology’s greatest feats is making the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of chronic oral health diseases much simpler and more comfortable. In the case of periodontal disease, for instance, we can often utilize a specially calibrated laser to eliminate harmful oral bacteria and promote the healing and reattachment of healthy periodontal tissues. Known as the Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP), the laser treatment protocol offers patients a number of significant advantages in the treatment of maintenance of their periodontal disease.

Perio Maintenance with LANAP

  • A more comfortable procedure – The LANAP protocol replaces traditional, scalpel-based periodontal surgery with minimally invasive laser treatment. The laser uses concentrated, variable pulsed wavelengths designed specifically for soft-tissue treatment. Because no scalpel is involved, patients typically don’t need sutures following their procedure.
  • More precise treatment results – In addition to greater comfort, Periolase laser technology also produces more precise results. No cutting means your healthy periodontal tissues stay intact, reducing the risks of gum recession due to the procedure. The higher precision that the laser offers also means harmful oral bacteria can be more efficiently eradicated, and in some cases, early gum disease can be more easily reversed.
  • Faster healing time – By eliminating the need for cutting, the LANAP protocol also reduces the time it takes to heal following your procedure, and makes the healing process much more comfortable. During the procedure, the concentrated heat from the laser promotes faster healing, and many patients can fully recover and return to work within 24-48 hours.
