Removing tartar and plaque from teeth by ultrasonic scaler. Dental descaling concept
When the gums become inflamed, this could lead to gingivitis. Without treatment, the inflammation could grow more severe until pockets form at the gum line. Once they reach a certain depth and bacteria enter them, this could cause periodontal disease. While the disease can be managed with routine care, lack of attention could allow the disease to worsen and reach a late stage that actually causes tooth loss. Factors behind your disease could include a family history of it, inflammatory illnesses, certain medications, lack of proper oral hygiene, and tobacco use. When you have sore, red gums that bleed easily, you need to seek treatment. In the early stages, we can manage this with preventive care.
For patients suffering from gingivitis and don’t have a history of periodontal disease or attachment loss, we could manage the issue with supportive periodontal maintenance. Our dental hygienist will carefully and thoroughly remove deposits of plaque from between your teeth and on the surfaces of them. We also clean along the gum line too. Afterward, we polish the smile thoroughly. The procedure could help reverse inflammation, and prevent the onset of the disease.
A periodontal deep cleaning, or scaling and root planing, is recommended when plaque and tartar have reached the surfaces of your roots too. At this stage, you could be suffering from the early stages of periodontal disease, and treatment could manage it to keep your smile whole. With an ultrasonic scaling device, we will remove buildup from the teeth and roots, planing the roots to keep them smooth and prevent bacteria from becoming stuck on them. We will administer a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable, and this could take one visit or up to four, depending on the severity of your plaque and tartar buildup.
We can use ozone therapy to sterilize and destroy harmful oral bacteria that are responsible for the onset of gingivitis and gum disease. This is an effective and noninvasive treatment option, and can help protect the smile.
